Austin FC is 9th most valuable MLS team in 2022

CEO and majority owner Anthony Precourt is laughing all the way to the bank after his bold, but contentious, move to take his MLS franchise rights to Austin in 2018.

Austin FC ranks as the 9th most valuable MLS franchise in 2022, according to new data compiled by Sportico. The club has a staggering market value of $630 million, up 10 percent from last year, in just its second year of league play.

To those following the Verde & Black since its early days in 2018, the club’s success on a spreadsheet probably doesn’t come as a surprise. The front office has hit the mark time and time again building the club—season ticket purchases (and renewals), Q2 Stadium, St. David’s Performance Center, and of course the matchday experience, among others.

Meanwhile, the team Precourt left behind, Columbus Crew, ranks 14th ($560 million), dropping three spots from last year.

The valuation is the sum of revenues (tickets, sponsorships, etc.), team-related businesses and real estate holdings, along with every MLS franchise’s small interest in the league’s Soccer United Marketing arm.
