Austin FC bounced from Leagues Cup and Ethan Finlay is fuming

Another tournament on the world’s stage. Another meltdown by Austin FC.

The Verde and Black exit the inaugural Leagues Cup tournament in the group stage after a stunning 3-1 loss to FC Juarez, a poor Liga MX side, where ATX gave up three unanswered goals and their pride last night.

Coach Wolff issued his usual post-match platitudes about Austin’s play, “We were quite good in the first 30 minutes,” but “it’s a tale of two halves.” As well as his standard “[Austin FC] could have been up a couple of goals” refrain he says in ridiculous lopsided losses at Q2 Stadium.

One person not handling the loss well was winger Ethan Finlay, the scorer of Austin’s lone goal last night.

Behind those calm, brown eyes, Ethan was livid after the match.

That’s Finlay, mad.

Capital City Soccer’s Adam Ribbeck asked Ethan about his early goal in the 23rd minute. He quickly retorted, “[the goal] came in a loss, couldn’t give a shit.”

While Finlay exclaims in the video that Austin FC players will be “training” during their three weeks off until MLS play resumes, it seems unwise to double down on workouts now after a spate of player injuries has turned St. David’s Performance Center into a MASH unit.

Yes, that was Jon Gallagher grabbing his groin in discomfort in the game last night.

We’ve all seen that MORE practice after these embarrassing ATX losses doesn’t actually help.

Anyone seen Seba?

While Finlay, Stuver, and Fagundez regularly step up after hard losses to face the public, don’t expect our $6 million captain Sebastian Driussi to answer any of the tough questions on these kinds of nights.

Driussi ducks out, like he did last night, preferring to say his peace on Instagram.

Until the players, coaches, and front office of Austin FC collectively take these cup tournaments seriously, all we can do is laugh/cry.

LOL.

  1. Pitiful performance. Embarrassing how we don’t seem to take tournaments/Cup plays seriously but instead choose to embarrass ourselves ( can you say Violette??🤦🏾😱). Hoping To will do something about this. #Wolffout
