Austin FC ranked 32nd most valuable soccer team in the world

In just its third season in MLS, Austin FC has quickly climbed the ranks as one of the world’s 50 most valuable soccer teams.

Sports business publication Sportico conducted a study that estimates the Verde are worth $630 million, with projected revenue of $78 million in 2023. That places Austin FC at No. 32, just ahead of famed European clubs RB Leipzig (Bundesliga) and Everton (Premier League).

Among all MLS teams, Austin ranks as the 9th most valuable club. And compared to its major league compadres in Texas — Houston Dynamo and FC Dallas — the Verde leaves them in the dust; both fall short of Sportico’s top 50 list. Austin’s $630 million valuation is about $50 million more than the average MLS team.

Sportico determines the worth of soccer clubs around the world by “relying on publicly available financial statements, Deloitte’s Football Money League publication, and our own estimates in cases where detailed information was not available.” For this study, the publication had previously compiled MLS valuations in late September 2022.

In 2019, team owner Anthony Precourt paid an expansion fee of $150 million for an MLS franchise in Austin — bringing professional soccer to the Capital City was never a gamble.
