Austin FC roster updates and player rumors for 2023 season

Austin FC’s sophomore MLS campaign was a triumph.

Now it’s time to talk offseason roster news and rumors as we approach the 2023 Major League Soccer regular season—set to begin in February. (The club’s complete schedule will be announced by January 2023.)

The Verde & Black added key pieces this time last year when they signed Ruben Gabrielsen, Maxi Urruti, Ethan Finlay, and Felipe Martins to help propel them to the playoffs in 2022.

For 2023, Claudio Reyna and Josh Wolff must fine-tune key positions in the coming months to reach MLS Cup in year three.

Here’s the latest player news heading into the 2023 MLS season.

  • Sofiane Djeffal, midfielder, was the club’s first pick of the 2022 MLS Re-Entry Draft Stage 1. Austin acquired the first pick via a trade with DC United for $50,000 GAM. The 23-year-old native of France will occupy Supplemental and International roster designations.

We here at CCS are used to the player transfers going in one direction—into Austin.
