Something’s fishy about new Austin FC x adidas shoe collaboration

It appears Austin FC and adidas football want to make sure you’re covered head to toe in verde and black heading into MLS Cup Playoffs.

And by toe, we mean your feet.

The club recently dropped a 10-second video on social media with the comment “Get your hashi ready, Austin. 9.29.22”.

The Japanese word “hashi” refers to chopsticks (literal translation is “bridge”).

The video features a fish on ice saying “Austin Hasta La Muerte” in Japanese (translation underneath) before black-gloved hands whisk it away. Austin FC and adidas logos are then depicted side-by-side against the backdrop of ice and the video ends with the date 9.29.22 flashed on the screen.

Very fishy! What does it all mean?

The mystery got a little clearer in the club’s follow-up post, with the comment “Download the Adidas app & register for adiClub for a chance to attend the launch of our Austin FC Limited Edition Samba shoes,” along with a picture of traditional Japanese serving bowls and a link to the adidas Website.

A theme of Japanese dining is all that appears to connect the two recent social media posts.

Here’s our guess on the tie-in with the Austin FC Samba shoe release: It’s an in-person launch that will take place at a Japanese-themed venue in Austin on September 29.

Update: it’s confirmed the shoe release will occur at Otoko sushi restaurant on South Congress.

What do the Austin FC Sambas look like?

While no official photos have been revealed by the club, it appears Austin FC Samba low profile shoes will feature a two-tone color scheme of a black leather upper with Verde detailing on the heel tab and serrated three stripes.
