Verde Roundup: Power rankings, season tickets, no-comply skate collab, Wolff’s presser, and more

CCS Verde Roundup June 22, 2022

Welcome to Capital City Soccer’s Verde Roundup! Here are some of the biggest midweek stories to hold you over until matchday.

It’s revenge time at Q2 Stadium on Saturday, in a big Texas Derby matchup vs. FC Dallas.

Winning this week’s rivalry match means A LOT to Austin FC players. Here’s what Brad Stuver said, “We have a lot of unfinished business with Dallas. One of the season long goals is to win Copa Tejas.”

MLS Power Rankings — Austin FC No. 6 in a Week 15. If you take stock in power rankings, then you’ll be happy to know ATX leaped five spots forward after a gritty, under-manned win at Montreal. Behind Austin in the Western Conference standings, Seattle inexplicably holds the number three spot in the rankings.

It’s voting szn in MLS. Be sure to cast your Fan XI All-Star ballot and sprinkle in a bunch of Austin FC players. You can vote once per day until the poll closes on July 1. The MLS All-Stars vs LIGA-MX All-Stars game will be held August 10 at Allianz Field. It’d be mighty impressive if Austin was represented in year two in the league.

Austin FC collaborates with local skate shop No-Comply. Continuing its annual tradition of partnering with beloved local brands, the club followed up last year’s Howler Bros. partnership with an iconic purveyor of skate culture in ATX. As part of the festivities, an open skate session was held at House Park, just steps from the stadium where the former Austin Aztex club played matches.

Austin FC x No-Comply co-branded tees and skateboard decks were unveiled at the Verde Store; the decks sold out within hours on the first day.

2023 Austin FC season ticket renewals were sent to members this week. New for next season, in addition to the familiar 2022 benefits, membership includes up to two Leagues Cup matches and access to the new MLS streaming app on Apple TV. Time will tell if the MLS streaming service remains free for ticket holders after 2023. The waitlist for Austin FC season tickets currently exceeds 20,000. (Yes, we said 20K!) Last year 96% of members renewed their season tickets.

Wolff’s Words of the Week

Here’s what Coach Wolff said in the midweek presser on June 22.

On Dani’s playing status due to both a red card and yellow card accumulation “He is definitely out this game. We’ll look into beyond that. But I think he is going to be out two.” On whom might play center mid with Dani out “It’s going to be something we have to deal with over the next couple games if we are missing him for two [games]. Alex we obviously understand. Jhojan Valenica is out for a bit. We have a limited amount of numbers. Owen can play as a center mid. Felipe can play as a center mid. There’s some things we looked at doing and we worked on today, so we’ll keep piecing it together.” On the timeline for Jhojan Valenica’s return from surgery “The type of cleanup he had we’re hopeful it’s six weeks. We know that varies by individual.” On the upcoming match against Dallas “We’re at home in front of our fans. It going to be important we utilize that and their energy to give us a good push. Dallas is a good team. But we’re also a good team.”
