After an embarrassing U.S. Open Cup loss to San Antonio FC, the Verdes are looking for redemption against a struggling Vancouver side — ranked second to last in the West.
In that Open Cup loss, Austin had the lead after a 47′ goal by Diego Fagundez. Austin dominated the game in terms of possession. What then ensued was two goals in the 82‘ and 96‘ minutes of the match by San Antonio. Those unanswered goals snatched a victory from Austin’s grasp and sent them home.
That inconsequential match will be just the jolt Austin FC needs to continue its hot run in MLS this month — two wins and a draw since April 1. The message to all the fans will be loud and clear: what happened against San Antonio doesn’t represent this year’s group of players.
Luckily for them, they take on a Vancouver side at Q2 fortress that’s gone off the rails early this season.

Austin vs Vancouver Kickoff
About the Opponent
Vancouver is coming off a crushing 2-1 defeat to their fellow Canadians Montreal. They have only one win this season — against lowly Sporting KC. Five losses and one draw round out a poor stat line.
They are currently tied last in the Western conference in terms of goals scored. The Whitecaps are also near the bottom in terms of most goals given up. All in all, it hasn’t been a good start to the season for the Whitecaps.
The club gives up multiple goals almost every game. If they want to compete with a team like Austin who’s tied first in goals scored, the blue and white will have to bolster a porous backline.
Their two most dangerous players are Deiber Caicedo and Ryan Gauld. They offer their spark in attack and are always dangerous. In addition, The Canadian side just signed two players that could make an appearance in Saturday’s match — wingback Ali Ahmed and midfielder Vasco Fry.
Score Prediction
This game offers the Black and Verde a lot of opportunities to attack and create opportunities in front of goal. If they can find a way to unlock the Whitecaps defense, the goals will be there for the taking.
Final Score:
Austin FC – 3
Vancouver – 0
