Austin vs Minnesota: looking to get back to winning ways at Q2

Austin FC vs San Jose Matchday (Image: designbymarkf)

Los Verdes are playing at home against Minnesota after coming off a 2-2 draw last week.

Austin is desperate to get back to winning form after relinquishing a two-goal lead against San Jose.

The draw was a big letdown for ATX as they squandered a two-goal advantage off a Driussi penalty. The momentum was in Austin’s favor for a big chunk of the game. That changed later in the second half when San Jose got a questionable penalty of their own. Two minutes later, mulleted youngster Cade Cowell knotted it up with a goal coming off a corner.

The Quakes match, plus the recent draw versus Seattle, will have the team back at the drawing board this week and see what they can do to get back into the win column.

To do that though, they’ll have to change their fortunes against a Loons side who is coming off a loss against the Sounders.

Austin vs Minnesota Kickoff

About the Opponent

Minnesota will look to rebound from a 2-1 loss to Seattle where they struggled until the latter half of the match. That game was the first defeat they’ve suffered this season and will leave a bad taste in their mouth.

Their strength is their midfield. Having star Emmanuel Reynoso, coupled with Robin Lod Fragapane, Kervin Arriaga, and MLS veteran Wil Trapp has been a key to their success. They have been good so far and it will be interesting to see them in a head-to-head match-up against Austin’s midfielders. For ATXFC to see success in this match, they’ll have to stop dangerous Argentine Reynoso.

Score Prediction

The game will be won or lost in the midfield. It’s going to come down to the likes of Driussi, Pereira, and Ring to control the center of the park. They’ll be doing it without the services of Cecilio Dominguez on Sunday. The Paraguayan midfielder was a late scratch for the game after MLS announced his indefinite suspension on Friday.

Both clubs have a 2-2-1 record, with ATX ahead overall by goal differential.

Final score:
Austin FC – 1
Minnesota United – 0

Kit Matchup

Austin has been pushing the glory mint jerseys hard this season, but Sunday’s game will see the squad in the OG verde and black stripes. Wearing the home kit at home, what a concept. Stuver debuts a new keeper kit color (red!) again this week.
