Austin FC drops first-ever primary jersey…[spoiler alert] it’s black and verde stripes. In the wee hours of Nov. 18, leaked images of the kit appeared on adidas.com hours before the official club reveal. Initial fan reax was mixed. We took an in-depth look at the jersey in a recent post. Honestly, it has grown on us after wearing it for a week.

Verde Van rolls into our hearts as the official Austin FC merch shop on wheels. On jersey release day, the very first stop for the Verde Van was Easy Tiger. Folks showed up hours before the van arrived to be first in line. It made stops throughout the city at designated locales for the next four days selling authentic and replica jerseys, as well as other YETI and club merch.

Fairmont Austin named official hotel of the club. The 37-story luxury hotel in the downtown Austin is the official hotel partner of Austin FC. Right away it’ll serve as temporary HQ for Austin FC’s players and coaches until the opening of the St. David’s Performance Center. Also, visiting clubs will stay there for matches against Austin FC—hope they get the VIP treatment on 6th ;).

H-E-B + Austin FC make ultimate Combo Loco for ATX soccer fans. Beloved Texas-based grocery chain H-E-B is the official grocer of the club. Maybe most exciting, on match day they’ll setup an on-site fan-zone activation—called “H-E-B Plaza”—at the northeast entrance. In our opinion, Austin FC scores another banger with the H-E-B deal; although tbh we thought they might step up to be inaugural stadium sponsor.

Two more assistant coaches join the staff, bringing buckets of MLS experience to Austin FC. We won’t spoil it for you here, but read our post about Sheldon, Rios, and Arnaud to learn about their previous MLS experience and connections to head coach Josh Wolff.

November 24 episode of Capital City Soccer Show got nerdy with Landon and two guests doing a mock MLS Expansion Draft for Austin FC. CCSS hosts also give their take on the jersey reveal, coaching hires, H-E-B Sponsorship, and other late-breaking news—give it a listen here or on your podcast player.

Coming Up

2020 MLS Expansion Draft is coming up December 15. The only club in the expansion draft this year, Austin FC can add a max of five players from the draft. We’ll find out which MLS players are available a day before the draft (on Dec. 14). Can Renya and Wolff find a gem among these MLS castoffs?

Naming Rights for Austin FC Stadium is expected to be announced by year end. Who will be the sponsor? That’s the multi-million dollar question. We researched other MLS stadium deals—financial and automotive companies dominate. Here are our guesses of local and regional companies with deep pockets that fit that criteria.

MLS stadium sponsors

Away Jersey unveiling is next up on the Austin FC kit front after the home jersey was released Nov. 18. Hold tight—it’s expected to be unveiled early 2021, according to the club. We’re making our prediction right now: white and green vertical stripes. Pssst…MLS may also reinstitute 3rd jerseys in 2021.
