Academy Updates

The Austin FC Academy had mixed results against the Houston Dynamo Academy this weekend. They’ll face their biggest test of the season so far on Halloween, when they match up against the FC Dallas Academy in Austin.

Club Guarani at Copa Libertadores

Club Gaurani defeated Bolivar in their final group play match at Copa Libertadores, with Rodney Redes making a significant contribution. Guarani advances to play against Gremio, out of Brazil, in the Round of 16. The first leg will take place on November 26.

Updated Supporters Shield Drama

The board of the Supporters Foundation reversed its earlier decision and agreed to award the Supporters Shield to the MLS club with the most points in 2020. A member of the foundation also resigned from his position with the Independent Supporters Council in the aftermath.

Stadium Update

The full pitch, along with the first set of seats, were installed at McKalla Stadium. The club’s social media channels provided fans the verde content that we all desired.

Netspend Partnership

The club announced Netspend as the official jersey sleeve partner last week. In addition to being on the sleeve, Netspend will be part of the cashless payment experience in the stadium. Chris Bils also covered the story in his soccer notebook, with the shocking (to Jeremiah) revelation that Netspend’s president is a longtime Manchester United fan.

Mateo Clarke and Rigo Rodriguez Lira from La Murga de Austin, the heartbeat of Austin FC, stopped by to talk about the work that the band has been doing for the last 18 months, as well as what they have planned for 2021. Austin Soccer Foundation FootGolf Tournament

Austin Soccer Foundation will hold its 4th annual FootGolf Tournament on November 8. Registration is now open and a portion of the registration funds will go to charity.

New Mini-Soccer Pitch

Austin Independent Schools District (AISD), 4ATX Foundation, Soccer Assist, and the U.S. Soccer Foundation announced the opening of a new mini-pitch at Woolridge School Park in north central Austin. The partners all contributed to converting the pitch from a little-used tennis court on the site.
