Countdown to 2021: Austin FC news for September 2019

We bring you the biggest Austin FC stories of the month including important news, speculation, and the hottest links on the interwebs. Only 18 months until the first home match!

September 2019

Stadium groundbreaking marks another FIRST in Austin FC lore. Shovels dug and dirt flew with Austin FC team owners, city council, front office, and fans all getting in on the action. We recapped the entire kick off ceremony if you missed it.

Construction will take about 18 months with the grand opening expected to be April 2021, if there’s no delays. That’ll be approximately one month after the 2021 MLS season starts, so expect Austin FC to play its first matches in March away.

Austin FC Academy record their first win. The U14 squad outdid rival Houston Dynamo Youth 2-1 on Sept. 28. Austin FC CEO Anthony Precourt took to social media to congratulate the team on this important milestone.

If you’re keeping track at home, Sept. 14 also marked the first ever competitive match for an Austin FC team on home turf. The U14 club faced FC Dallas in a 4-2 loss.

Coming Up

Austin FC Meet & Greet heads to Cedar Park next month. Mark your calendar for October 1, 7pm and quaff beers with fellow Austin FC supporters at Whitestone Brewery. Their seasonal Oktoberfest Festbier is on tap just in time for the event. Prost!

Training Facility for Austin FC to be revealed in coming months. We don’t know where it’ll be, but word is the St. David’s Performance Center—as it’ll be known—will be announced in the fall 2019.

General Manager/Sporting Director of Austin FC will be the next big hire now that Josh Wolff has been named head coach. According to the Extratime podcast, a GM with international experience, especially with ties to Mexico, would complement Wolff’s expertise of players in the U.S.  According to the team, the search is ongoing right now. We expect an announcement in late 2019/early 2020.

Season Ticket Pricing can’t come soon enough. With stadium construction starting and a fan Experience Center opening, we expect sales execs from Austin FC to start calling deposit holders in 2020 to take membership orders. Doing our part to fuel speculation of ticket prices we looked at season tickets costs for other big time sports in Austin.
