Austin is top 4 Men’s World Cup TV market in U.S.

New York City, Los Angeles and Atlanta are major metropolitan areas with at least five million residents and an MLS team.

But that’s not the only thing they have in common.

They also all happened to finish behind Austin when it comes to the number of World Cup viewers this year.

According to Washington Post writer Steven Goff, Austin out-watched basically every other major market in the country, finishing fourth in the overall rankings. Here’s the list Goff provided, via Twitter:

Fox Sports Top 15 TV markets for entire World Cup:

  1. Washington DC
  2. SF
  3. Miami
  4. Austin
  5. San Diego
  6. New York
  7. Providence
  8. Los Angeles
  9. West Palm Beach
  10. Tulsa
  11. Atlanta
  12. Dallas
  13. Richmond
  14. Norfolk
  15. Boston

You’ll note Austin was the largest market in Texas, and that no cities in Ohio made the list. Interesting.
