Austin FC dropped jaws in the U.S. soccer world naming high profile national legend Claudio Reyna as the club’s inaugural sporting director before it begins play in 2021.
The former NYCFC sporting director was officially hired as DoF of El Tree on Thursday, following a social media teaser from CEO Anthony Precourt two days prior.
Reyna is a force in the front office: legendary European and U.S. national team playing experience, respected MLS soccer operations expertise, Spanish-speaking fluency, and a well-regarded developer of youth talent from his time with U.S. Soccer.
After more than a decade grinding overseas in the Bundesliga and English Premier League, Reyna capped his illustrious playing career with the New York Red Bulls. For the past six years, he was sporting director at NYCFC, another MLS expansion team—where he also built the club’s player roster from the ground up before entering the league.
